It ain't about the bike

Dec 4, 2023

We love bikes and we believe that bikes are the medium that best fit the current needs of our society– especially in urban settings. But we love walking too. And running and blading and skating and scooting and skipping and, well, movement– especially in nature.

In 2023 we got off the ground and now we’re gonna fly. We’re excited to double click on the intentional learning aspect of ‘field trip’. Yes, the trips are fun as hell and relaxing but that doesn’t seem like enough. It’s not enough. We are trying to do something, to go somewhere, to learn, teach, experiment and grow. Which means we are now hosting mid-trip workshops– led by our peers for our peers– on a variety of “soft skill” topics, although we don’t call them that. In fact, we call them “absolutely necessary to keep our fucking heads a float” skills. You know, like, mindfulness, non-violent communication, growth mindset, story telling, listening, accepting and giving feedback, play, conflict resolution, dance, missioning, and primal movement.

This is a working list and we want to know what skills are absolutely necessary to keep your head afloat? What matters to you?

One thing that matters to me, that is alive to me, that courses energy through my veins when I speak of it, is the idea of a mission. Missions imply collaboration and uncertainty and communication and exploration and edges and a common goal and, well, good food too. Like really good food.

Of course,  none of this is about the bike. It’s about more than that, much more. So, to whom it may concern, you know who you are: if you have something to contribute we hope to hear from you, mean it.

We’re going on a mission in Dark Canyon Wilderness over MLK weekend. And again on Presidents day. If you’re receiving this email, we’d love for you to join.
