Spin to Win

Jan 29, 2024

On Saturday, we hosted an Unplugged pop-up activation in the Alta parking lot. The goal was to promote our fast approaching Spring Break trip. We arrived two minutes past 1pm (which marks the end of the parking reservation period). A spot near the front of the lot opened up just as we rolled by. We went straight to ‘work’ setting everything up.

Chris, Unplugged’s new and ultra talented intern, recently finished alterations on a collection of ridiculously swagged out vintage clothing that was on display. Lucas set out a dozen or so funky mugs that he stickered with our logo and carefully varnished during a creative session with the intern a few nights prior. We set out a line up of some of our favorite books for perusing, these weren’t for sale, just a nod and a signal about where many of our ideas come from. Thank you, teachers. Basically, we set stuff out with intentionality, you know, for the brand.

We lit a fire. And Jerry’s voice reverberated through the speakers out onto the glorious winter landscape. “This is boots on the ground,” Lucas said with a smile. Chris had been smiling since we picked him up. I was feeling it too.

People like games and sometimes, it’s fun to put things up to chance. So we ordered a cheesy spinner wheel and set it up on the table with some hilarious and (to us) highly valuable options for folks to land a spin on. We turned the music down when someone bravely told everyone about their first kiss, or dished out improvised compliments to strangers faces. A few folks even scored free trips.

It felt good putting vibes out for the people. Of course we had a motive. It comes from a place of wanting to be generous and to contribute towards better. We’re doing this on purpose and we know what we’re about.

We’d love it and greatly appreciate it if you helped us spread the good word. trips unplugged dot net.
