The Gold Line

Jun 2, 2023

During Unplugged’s closing ceremony, whilst wielding the burning torch, with tired legs and full hearts, we held space for one another to express. There was an aura of magic present in the circle as each one of us shared our plan to channel the magic back into our plugged-in lives.

Welp, here it is, it’s called The Gold Line and it’s our gift to the community.

The Gold Line is an eight mile urban flow trail through the heart of Salt Lake City. Linking Liberty Park to Downtown to The Gateway and back.

It bobs, weaves, zigs, zags, bounces, connects, and most of all, it shows us all how to find flow in the city. It’s not a bike path and it’s not for exercise. The Gold Line is here for fun.

Period.

The Gold Line meanders through low-stress-high-flow bike zones that can transform our city into a canvas for expression and a platform for connection. The route utilizes alleys, cut-throughs, parking lots, whoopdees, sneak routes, and connector trails to take you on an explorative urban cruise.

The line is marked with gold flags and duct tape— attached to trees, buildings, lamp posts, and street signs— that look like this:

To view and connect with the route, click here: Strava, Gaia GPS, or RideWithGPS.

Now, grab your friggin’ friends and go follow the yellow brick road!

The Gold Line is a public health project that leverages the bike as a tool to promote a healthier Salt Lake City. Period. Oh, and because urban cruising is fun as hell.

It is part of the growing “tactical urbanism” movement and it is our hope that this urban bike line gets enough community support to make a statement that: streets are for people, not just cars.

The Gold Line is maintained by the community, for the community, and takes quite a bit of work. If you would like to be a part of the movement, please join the Gold Line Squad on WhatsApp to get involved.

So… dust off the old clunker in the back of your garage and come join us in finding flow right here in Salt Lake City.
